2015-2016 Football Season Begins This Weekend.

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 28th September 2015 – Football fans will soon have something to cheer about again. The good news is that the 2015 – 2016 Football Season is starting Saturday, 3rd October.

According to Stanley Jacobs, the general secretary of the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA), two top teams will get the season going when they clash at the Warner Park Football Stadium. And for those who didn’t get enough in the Final Four, then get ready, it’s going to be Premier Division Champion S. L. Horsford St. Paul’s coming up against the FA Cup Champions SOL Island Auto Conaree for the coveted President’s Cup

With the field being out of commission for several months due to the hosting of entertainment events on the field, fans and teams wondered about the football venue for the upcoming season. But Jacobs has ended the speculation, “We’ll kick off the season at the Warner Park Football Stadium. Remedial work on the football field is almost complete. We were severely challenged over the past several months with the drought situation, but it will be ready for the new season.”

The kick off of the Premier Division matches will take place on Saturday, 10th October.

Jacobs has disclosed that Saturday night’s entry fee will be $10.00.

Meanwhile, participating teams in this year’s football season are playing under CONCACAF’s recent regulations governing the administration of clubs.

Jacobs explained, “In our case, St. Kitts and Nevis, CONCACAF had set the start of the 2015-2016 football season as our target date for full implementation of the club licensing system. Only the clubs that fulfill the requirements of the criteria set out in the regulations will be eligible to participate in the 2015-16 Premier and Division One leagues.”

The SKNFA has been preparing member clubs for this eventuality for some time. Under these rules and regulations, all clubs must have a qualified head coach, qualified assistant coach, youth team, grassroots and women’s team, club’s constitution, financial statements and annual meetings, among other administrative requirements.
