Basseterre, St. Kitts- Conaree and S L Horsford St. Pauls have earned themselves spots in the final two(possibly three) games of the 2013 SKNFA Finals.
The first match last night featured finals hopefuls Hobson Enterprises Garden Hotspurs and Rams Village Superstars. A win for spurs would mean that they would advance to the finals as they had already accumulated two(2) points prior to that game. The Superstars were still stuck on zero points and could not advance to the next round but could end their season on a good note by winning.
By Halftime, Spurs’ Timothy Smithen had already given spurs the upper hand with a tremendous strike beating Village’s goalkeeper. An effective pep talk in Village’s dressing room sent spirits soaring. Nine (9) minutes into the second half Steven Clarke had responded on behalf of his team, the game was then tied at 1-1. Seven(7) minutes later, Ajah Jeffers scored Village’s second goal of the night putting them in the lead.
After two win-less games Rams Village Superstars managed to steal the bronze medal although they failed to advance.
By the time match one was over, the two finalists had already been decided and the top ranked players were replaced on the starting list with players who would more than likely have been on the bench. The tone of the game was a bit less intense as both teams seemingly and rightfully wished to save their strengths for the finals.
The game played to a scoreless first half although Conaree a clear chance to score when they were awarded a penalty which was saved by St. Pauls goalkeeper Kaiyan Benjamin. It wasn’t until the seventy-first(71st) minute of play that a single goal was scored compliments St.Pauls’ Jakiel Leader.
The game ended 1 goal to nil in favour of SLHorsford St. Pauls which carried their total accumulated points to seven(7), Conaree finished on four(4), Rams Village Superstars gained three(3) points and HE Garden Hotspurs finished on two(2) points.
The best of three finals begins on Saturday 17th August.
