As the final four playoffs draw closer, the defending Flow 4G Cayon Rockets are running against time, as a 1-1 draw versus Island Auto Supplies Conaree F.C. on Wednesday night was not the result they were hoping for. Both teams battled it out in their National Bank Premier league round three encounter at the Warner Park Football Stadium. This is the second match up between both teams in four days as they both met on Sunday in the FA Cup finals, producing similar results, before Cayon won on penalties. Carlos Bertie got the ball rolling for Cayon scoring a 13th minute penalty, only for Glenroy Samuel to equalize for Conaree in the 74th minute. Captain Adolphus Jones of Cayon admitted that Cayon will have to win their remaining matches to make a good challenge for a top four place. “We just got to win. We got to put the focus on winning more. We got to win all the games,” Jones said. “We didn’t capitalize on the early opportunities and in the end it cost us two points,” Jones said. He said the intensity was high in this match, considering this is the same opponent they met on Sunday in the FA Cup Finals, which eventually led to the same results.
Player Kareem Mitcham of Conaree said he believes the draw was a fair result to help them book their spot in the final four. “We wanted a point to secure ourselves in the final four. We went out and got the point. Couldn’t get the three so we settled for one,” Mitcham said. He was asked about what they did differently against Cayon this time around compared to Sunday’s FA Cup finals loss. “Or coach gave us a new strategy and that really gave us the momentum to go out and fight for Conaree community,” Mitcham added. Regarding the Final Four playoffs, the Conaree footballer is looking forward to it. “We will have to be fully prepared and take it one game at a time and see how far we can progress into the final four,” he said. The final four playoffs are slated to begin on May 23.
