Mapau Cayon Rockets and Honda Newtown United registered wins in the last set of Final Four Playoffs matches in the 2023 Elvis Star Browne Women’s League on Wednesday at the SKNFA Technical Center. Cayon defeated playoffs debutants Queen City FC from Nevis 2-0 with goals coming in the first half from Josanna Williams and Jaenic Guishard-Pine. Coach Valentine Anthony said the victory was a good way to end the season. Coach of Queen City Curtis Morton Jr. said he was expecting more from is players but commended their output, while looking ahead to next season.
In the night’s other match, Honda Newtown United eked out a 1-0 win over MFCR Old Road United Lady Jets, a precursor to Sunday’s championship match between both teams. Shameka Isaac scored a stunning strike to separate both teams in a mostly cagey affair. Coach Shashi Isaac of Newtown bemoaned the performance from his players especially in the first half. He also lost one of his star strikers Christi-Anne Mills in the first half, but said she should be fine to play in the finals on Sunday. Coach Roger Hendricks of Old Road was unmoved by the result and said he will be ready for the finals on Sunday. Sunday’s finals between Newtown and Old Road will be at 6pm at the Warner Park.
