CAYON ROCKETTES END REGULAR SEASON ON A HIGH AS SEMI-FINALS APPROACH

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — The defending Elvis Star Browne Women’s League champions, Mapau Cayon Rockettes, closed out their regular season in winning fashion, defeating Hector and Associates Hotspring Bath United 3-0 on Tuesday, August 18, at the National Bank Group Technical Center.

Shekola Wilson opened the scoring in the 11th minute and doubled the advantage in the 30th, before Myesha Rawlins sealed the victory with a goal early in the second half.

Cayon’s head coach Tyrone O’Loughlin said after the match that his team is ready to defend its title when the playoffs begin this weekend. “My team’s performance tonight was good. They stuck to the game plan. My wingers, they did what they’re supposed to do and we got at least three goals from the crosses,” O’Loughlin said. “That’s what we practiced all week, so I feel confident about them.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s semi-final against MFCR Old Road United Lady Jets, O’Loughlin said: “(We are) very strong going into the game and my players, they’ve had some injuries leading up to the last couple of games. They should be back in by Sunday, so I feel confident that we’ll go out and hold them as usual.”

Reflecting on the two losses Cayon suffered against Honda Newtown United during the regular season, O’Loughlin acknowledged that his team must raise its level during the playoffs.

“Going into the playoffs, we’ve got to be sharper. We’re a little too slow at times, so we’re working on that right now. We’ve got to be a lot sharper to dominate because we have the best midfield in this tournament…but they’re a little too slow. They’re not aggressive enough, so we’re working on that to go into this playoff semi-finals.”

Despite the defeat, Hector and Associates Hotspring Bath United head coach Alex Claxton felt his team gave a good account of themselves.

“I think the team performed credibly well. I must commend them. We’re able to do this because we believe in giving our players equal opportunity,” Claxton said.

In the night’s other encounter, MFCR Old Road United Lady Jets produced a dominant 10-1 victory over newcomers S L Horsford St. Paul’s United Sparks.

Last season’s Golden Boot winner Tarvia Phillip led the way with four goals, while Leranja Wilkinson completed a hat-trick. Shyan Richards, Mikiana Richards and Kewandra McCall each added a goal for the Lady Jets.

Zamia Fyfield scored a late consolation goal for St. Paul’s.

With the regular season now complete, attention turns to the Elvis Star Browne Women’s League semi-finals, set for Sunday, August 23.

At 4 PM, defending champions Mapau Cayon Rockettes will face MFCR Old Road United Lady Jets in a rematch of the President’s Cup Final.

Then at 6 PM, unbeaten league leaders Honda Newtown United will take on S L Horsford St. Paul’s United Sparks for a place in the championship final.

Both semi-finals will be broadcast LIVE on the SKNFA Web App and the SKNFA YouTube Channel as well as TVC Channel 40 and the TVC+ App. The Elvis Star Browne Women’s League Final is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25, at 7 PM. Admission to all the games is free.
