Conaree FC marks their name in the history books with their first SKNFA Premier League Victory
Basseterre, St. Kitts- CFC! CFC! CFC! The chants coming from the silver Jubilee Stadium could in no way be ignored, the jubilation was ever present, the green and gold was overpowering and the pride in the eyes of players, fans and coaching staff alike was touching to say the least.
A boost of energy resulting from their first win propelled Conaree to a championship that all the football teams of St. Kitts-Nevis one day hope to have. A goalless first half had fans reliving the first game of the finals where the game went down to penalty shootout. Though Conaree had won the penalty shootout, there was no guarantee they could once again as each team would be put under the same conditions and afforded same opportunity to win.
The second half was almost an exact duplication of the first in that the attack was persistent, the defense seemingly unbreakable and the opportunities were endless. It was only at the end of the second half, one minute away from the end of the game that Andy Liburd scored a goal after Conaree had had a few shots ricochet from saves St. Pauls had made.
Green and gold waves could be seen across the stadium and the sound of anything other than roaring, chanting and screaming could not be heard. What a way to end a match and the season for Conaree and their coach Lester Morris who hasn’t won a Premier League until now.
Congratulations are definitely in order for the Conaree FC’s Management, staff and players!
