SKNFA hosts First FIFA Female Refereeing Course two days after Ordinary Congress

Basseterre, St. Kitts- 2nd July, 2013- A mere two days after the re-election of President Anthony Johnson and his entire team, the SKNFA is hosting it’s first ever FIFA Female Refereeing Course. Instructor for the said course, Mrs. Riabel Trujillo Torres originates from Peru. She became the first woman to referee a first division match in Peru when she took charge of the game between Deportivo Municipal and Alianza Lima, who won 3-2.

Twenty-five(25) women from St. Kitts and Nevis are currently undergoing theoretical training at the SKNFA’s conference room, which will then be followed by practical training at the Newtown Playing Field.

Hon. Glen Phillip, Minister of Sports, President of the SKNFA Anthony Johnson, Technical Director Lenny Lake, course instructor Riabel Trujillo Torres and Gen. Sec. Stanley Jacobs were all present at the opening ceremony of the course held on Tuesday 2nd July.

The General Secretary of the SKNFA opened with brief welcoming remarks to the participants and instructor alike who revealed it was her first time traveling to the island.

President Johnson invited all the ladies to take this opportunity and use it wisely. He referred to the now famous words of FIFA President Josepp Blatter “The future of football is feminine” when he encouraged the ladies to strive for the excellence the males are achieving. He acknowledged the females taking strides in the footballing arena in St. Kitts-Nevis.

Hon. Minister Glen Phillip encouraged the females to strive for more than just local status, to strive for the FIFA List of officials. All the ladies attending the course were fully outfitted with kits compliments FIFA.
