Basseterre, St. Kitts-The local football Association here in the federation, is stepping up its preparations to host next week’s World Cup Qualifier match between Canada and St. Kitts & Nevis.
According to an official at the St. Kitts & Nevis Football Association, SKNFA, a series of promotional activities is now being finalized, to mobilize Kittitians and Nevisians behind their national team, when they clash with the Canadians next week Friday, at Warner Park, in Basseterre.
Manager of the SKNFA Secretariat, Mr. Dexter Tyrell, has indicated that football fans will be given the opportunity to meet and greet with the national players, while also getting the chance to benefit from the attractive prizes being offered in a special raffle that was recently launched.
Included in the planned promotional activities will be a Corporate Night on 9th November, where the association would interact with selected business sponsors and partners, to help promote the initiatives of the organization, and to also promote upcoming international tournaments being hosted here.
A mini-motorcade is also being planned for Basseterre, for this Friday afternoon, 4th November, starting at the Kim Collins Highway, making its way through downtown Basseterre and ending in front of the Football House on Lozack Road, where live music will be featured by a top local band.
Tyrell stressed that the association is taking every measure to ensure that local football fans are able to support the game on 11th November, because it is critical to St. Kitts & Nevis that a victory is secured for the home side, before it travels to Canada, for the return leg.
Canada is a former finalist in a previous World Cup Tournament and it is expected that they will be seeking to protect their international image in football by trying to ensure that they secure a victory against the home team.
St. Kitts & Nevis on the other hand is hoping to make good use of the “home court advantage”, and with new resources being added to the team, the Kittitians/Nevisians are equally driven to score a victory, to better their chances of moving on to the next stage of the qualifiers.
The National Team has been fully engaged in practice for the game and already feeling somewhat confident that they will deliver a high standard of play in next Friday’s match.
The game will be played at the Warner Park Stadium, starting at 8:00pm, on Friday 11th November and will be carried live on local radio.
