Four National Team Players on Try-out with USL Rochester Rhinos

On Sunday 14th February, Devaughn Elliott, Kevin Benjamin, Shashi Isaac and Alistair Warner departed the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport for Elma, New York where they will be participating in the Rochester Rhinos invitation-only Try-out from 16th to 18th February, 2010. The Rochester Rhinos is a professional football club of the United Soccer League (USL) in the United States.

The four were selected by former National Player, Mr. Marlon Tyrell who now resides in the USA. Mr. Tyrell, a product of the United States soccer collegiate system has made a commitment to assist footballers in St. Kitts and Nevis in gaining exposure abroad through contracts with professional clubs and or securing football scholarships with universities in the United States. In 2009, Mr. Tyrell was instrumental in securing a scholarship for young Javeim Blanchette of SL Horsford’s St. Pauls FC to attend Elizabeth Town College in Pennsylvania.

Efforts to secure exposure to a higher level of the game for footballers in Federation has been on the increase recently with the visit of three coaches from the Touch Masters Soccer Academy, and coaches from St. Thomas University and Penn State University in the United States so far in 2010.

The delegation to the Rochester Rhinos Try-outs is headed by the SKNFA Youth Development Director Mr. Lenny Lake who is expected to play a critical role in looking after the interest of the young footballers and also to build a relationship with the organizers for future opportunities for our footballers.

The SKNFA will like to take this opportunity to thank American Airlines, TDC Newtown United, Rams Village Superstars, and SL Horsford St. Pauls for the assistance given to the players in order to make their travel possible.
