Four Teams Qualify for the Sugar Mas Cup

The First round of the Premier Division will official end Tuesday 14 December 2010 but the top four teams have been finalized for the much anticipated Sugar Mas Cup. The Sugar Mas is a two day event with the four top teams playing for the Championship. The Matches are scheduled for December Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th at Newtown Playing Field.

The road to the final four was not an easy task for some teams as they struggled to stay within site of the top four. On Saturday two teams were already decided but the remaining two would be determined on that day. The first game saw St Thomas Trinity Strikers versus Coury Gatorade Conaree. Both teams needed to win in order to stay in the top four. Coury Gatorade Conaree proved to be the dominant team and sealed the deal by winning convincingly against St Thomas Trinity Striker 5-1. The final position in the top four came down to goal difference as both St Peters and St Thomas Trinity Strikers ended with each team at 13 points. St Peters edged out St Thomas Trinity Strikers the new team to the premier division to claim their spot in the top four.

The teams competing in the Sugar Mas Cup are S L Horsfords St Pauls, Newtown United, Coury Gatorade Conaree and St Peters. The Sugar Mas Cup is gearing up to be an exciting weekend of football as these are the same teams that played in last season’s Final Four. The Champions Newtown will want to claim another title and the top team S L Horsford is determined to be the first ever Sugar Mas Cup Champions. Coury Gatorade Conaree and St Peters will not be left out of the battle as they to have the sights set on the champion podium.

The Sugar Mas Cup is schedule to begin its activities on Saturday and Sunday at 11 am and kick off of the matches will be at 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm. Calypso and folklore presentations as well as prizes and giveaways and music will be part of the days’ activities. A special half time kick to goal promotion will be a part of the day’s activities. On Sunday the Championship day special performances will be done by Small Axe Band as well as the Beaumont Park Soca Monarch winner. The Sugar Mas Cup will be an exciting mix of football carnival activities. Fans and supporters of both Carnival and Football are all encourage to come out in their numbers to witness the first ever Sugar Mas Cup. There will be something for everyone to enjoy.
