MFCR OLD ROAD UNITED LADY JETS MAINTAIN TOP SPOT IN WOMEN’S LEAGUE

MFCR Old Road United Lady Jets solidified their position atop the 2025 Elvis Star Browne Women’s League table, reaching 22 points after a dramatic 2-2 draw against second-place Mapau Cayon Rockets in the latest round of matches. The highly anticipated clash between the top two teams took place on Wednesday, October 15th, at St. Mary’s Park in Cayon. The Lady Jets, currently three points ahead of the Rockets (19 points), raced to a 2-0 lead early in the first half with goals from Shaniqua Williams (13th minute) and Tarvia Philip (17th minute).

However, Cayon staged a late, electrifying comeback. Goals from Mia Isaac in the 84th minute and Jasonna Williams in the 89th minute salvaged a crucial point for the home side, demonstrating the competitive nature of the league.

Old Road’s player, Shinell McCalla acknowledged that despite a recent dominant 11-1 victory over Hot Springs Bath United, the team still has areas to improve. “We have to fix on the minor stuff that we have to work on,” McCalla stated, adding that more “combination plays and some more movement” are needed. Despite the call for improvement, she expressed confidence in the team’s trajectory: “Hopefully that we can continue this throughout the whole season, going to semi-finals with the same momentum and also into the finals.”

Meanwhile, defending champions Honda Newtown United Ladies continued their return to form following back-to-back league defeats to Cayon. On Wednesday October 15 at the Newtown Sports Complex, they secured a 4-1 victory over Hot Springs Bath United. Shareema Blake netted a brace (41st, 81st minutes), with Omeara Delaney (50th) and Katelyn Forbes (86th) adding to the scoreline. Zyan France scored Bath’s lone goal in the 71st minute.

This latest win built on a dominant performance over the weekend where Newtown crushed St. Peter’s Blue Angels 14-0. Shareema Blake was the star, scoring an outstanding four goals, while Omeara Delaney contributed a hat-trick.

Newtown Women’s Captain, Shitonica Stapleton, emphasized the importance of these victories. She said this win was important, considering that the team lost back-to-back matches in the league recently. She noted that the new players are “fitting in nicely.” Captain Stapleton called on fans to “come on out and support the team as they vie for a playoff spot.”

In Wednesday’s other fixture, Security Forces FC defeated St. Peter’s Blue Angels 4-0 at St. Mary’s Park. Jerzelle Challenger scored a brace (14th minute, 90+2 minute), complemented by goals from Sheresa Seaton (60th minute) and Laquaine Leckie (90+5 minute).
