More shocking results on Sunday! What a weekend!

On Sunday 29th April football fans crowded Warner Park once again for more action. This time it was Delphic Newtown United coming up against Cayon FC. Newtown needed to win this game to carry on in their hopes of becoming a Final Four contender.

As soon as the game began the pressure was instantly piled upon both teams as they fought to score the first goal. In the twenty-sixth (26th) minute it was Jason Isaac with Newtown’s first goal. The second half played on for forty-five long scoreless minutes but noone was allowed to score. Newtown took three points from this game to take them up to thirty-four holding on to their fifth(5th) position.

The second game however was far more exciting. RAMS Village Superstars and St Peters FC faced off in a heated battle. Just twelve minutes into the game it was eighteen year (18) old Kimaree “Mughead”Rogers with a beautiful goal. RAMS were well on their way to a victory. Five minutes later Village came back with twenty (20) year old Devaughn “Papi” Elliott’s spectacular goal which seemed to seal the deal for them although it was still early. In the thirty-eight minute however, eighteen(18) year old Yuson “U.B”Slader scored St. Peter’s first goal keeping their hopes alive.

In the second half the match evolved into a fierce, heated frenzy and Harris Paint St. Peters retaliated after RAMS Village Superstars could not put away multiple chances. In the 80th minute, twenty-one(21) year old Dionis “Shaggy” Stevens struck a shot that hurt Village tremendously. The game was now tied with only ten (10) minutes of regular time to go. Nine minutes later, the unthinkable happened, seventeen(17) year old Kyrhon “tallup”Phillip got away and was now left in a 1v1 situation with Village’s last defender before he had to face the goalkeeper. His dribbled successfully past the defender and as he faced off with the goalkeeper, he held his composure and neatly tucked the ball pas Julani Archibald.

What a way to win the game for St. Peters and what a reward for continually fighting through their struggles. Special mention must be made to the ages of the goal scorers for this game, no goal scorer for this game is over the age of twenty-one(21). Our youth are definitely making solid contributions to their teams.
