OLD ROAD BECOME FIRST TEAM TO SECURE 2026 FINAL FOUR PLAYOFF BERTH
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS—The MFCR Old Road United Jets have officially punched their ticket to the 2026 Final Four playoffs, becoming the first team in the National Bank Group/SKNFA Premier League to qualify this season. The Jets secured their post-season spot while extending their remarkable unbeaten run with a 6-1 drubbing of SOL IAS Conaree FC on Saturday, February 28.
The league leaders wasted no time asserting dominance, as Nequan Browne opened the scoring just seconds after the opening whistle. Shevene Boston doubled the lead in the 9th minute before Tiquanny Williams took center stage, netting a brilliant hat trick with goals in the 32nd, 67th, and 71st minutes. J’Quante Fraser capped off the scoring in the final minute, while Conaree’s lone response came via Dequam Wattley in the 18th minute.
DEFENDING CHAMPIONS ON THE RISE
The defending champions, S L Horsford St. Paul’s United, were equally efficient in their outing against Tropical Blossom Hot Spring Bath United. St. Paul’s secured a 3-0 victory, with all scoring occurring during a dominant first-half display. Keithroy Freeman spearheaded the attack with a brace (13th and 21st minutes), followed by a Kalonji Clarke strike in the 27th.
St. Paul’s have made a remarkable recovery this season after starting with a six-point deduction due to pre-season sanctions. Coach Thrizen Leader emphasized the importance of the result, stating, “Tonight’s game was to get the three points because you know there are a lot of teams (fighting for the playoffs) so it was very important to collect those three points and make our way up the table,” he said. “The hard work the guys have been putting out in training ever since we got back to the (suspended) players…we’ve been putting in the work and results coming our way,” he said.
Conversely, the loss leaves Bath United in a precarious position. Usually a mid-table fixture, the side now faces a looming relegation battle with only a few games remaining in the regular season. Despite the pressure, Coach Alex Claxton remains optimistic.
“We just have to make good of the remaining games that we have; try to pick up points wherever you know we can and you know just keep pushing, just keep fighting,” Claxton said. “I think we have it within us and we just have to regroup and ensure that you know we pick up important points as we play the remaining games. If we’re unsuccessful then hey we just have to restart, but outside of that we’re going to push to remain in the Premier League.”
WEEKEND ROUNDUP: COMEBACKS AND DISCIPLINED DEFENSES
Sunday’s action featured a stunning “tale of two halves” as Honda Newtown United faced the TGE Dieppe Bay Eagles. The Eagles held a surprise 1-0 lead at the interval thanks to a 36th-minute goal from Quasim Greene. However, the “Newtown Boyz” responded with four unanswered second-half goals from Markenson Hyppolite (66’), Jean Wolf Edouard (67’), Sylvester Caines (84’), and Devauhn Mills (90’) to complete a 4-1 comeback.
In other action, the Azul Cayon Rockets pulled off a disciplined 2-0 victory over the Rams Village Superstars. Mervin Lewis provided an early lead in the 15th minute, and Karique Knight sealed the win in the 89th. The weekend also saw one stalemate as Development Bank St. Peters and St. Kitts Concrete Masters Sandy Point played to a 1-1 draw, with goals from Jahlyan Burt (19’) and Dionis Stephen (77’). With the Old Road Jets now officially playoff-bound, the pressure intensifies for the remaining contenders as the league enters the final weeks of round two.
