SANDY POINT SECURE PREMIER LEAGUE SURVIVAL; MANTAB, SECURITY FORCES RELEGATED

Basseterre, St. Kitts – Jones Group Sandy Point FC have officially retained their place in the 2025 NBGC Premier League after a crucial 2-1 victory over MFCR Old Road United Jets on Sunday at the Newtown Sports Complex. The win confirms Sandy Point’s survival, while Mantab FC and Elco Ltd. Security Forces have both been relegated, with just one week remaining in the regular season.

Sandy Point struck early through Dionte Eddy in the 13th minute, but their lead was short-lived as Jardel Isaac pulled Old Road level five minutes later. The decisive moment came in the 73rd minute when a defensive mix-up between Old Road’s goalkeeper and a defender gifted Sandy Point an easy chance, which T’ondre Rouse finished calmly to seal the win.

Assistant Coach Kenneth Douglas praised his team’s focus and execution under pressure. “Our aim was to stay in the Premier Division and today’s results solidify our position in the Premier League for next year,” he said. “This was the most important game in the tournament and we went out their and we came away with the victory.” On the opposing sideline, Old Road’s Assistant Coach Roger Hendricks expressed disappointment with his team’s approach. “We didn’t come to to play. We came out flat footed and because its Sandy Point, the game didn’t go our way,” Hendricks said.

The result confirms Sandy Point’s safety, while Mantab FC and ElcoLtd. Security Forces have been officially relegated from the top division.

Cayon Rockets Grind Out Victory

In other Match Week 17 action, Azul Cayon Rockets earned a hard-fought 2-0 win over a defensively disciplined Mantab side on Saturday, August 2. Mantab, fighting for survival, employed a deep low block to frustrate Cayon’s attack for much of the match. However, patience paid off as Evansroy Barnes broke the deadlock in the 66th minute, followed by a long-range stunner from Rodgenique Hendricks in the 73rd.

Cayon’s Head Coach Anthony “Nets” Isaac commended his team for adapting to the tactical challenge. “As the game went on, we saw that they were playing a real low block, like seven in defence. So it was really difficult for us to get through into the middle. So (at half time), I told the players we just have to spread the ball wide, just open the defence to get space in the middle; because it was too difficult getting in the middle because they were playing in a real, real tight low block,” he said. “Well, this game was really important for us. This is one of our most important games, that we had to go out and get three points.”
