SKN U-14 FALL TO ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA 2-0

The St. Kitts and Nevis U-14 Boys team fell to Antigua and Barbuda 2-0 on Saturday in their opening match of the CFU Caribbean Challenge Series at the Warner Park on Saturday.  Alexander Moodie Stuart got the first goal for Antigua in the 45th minute and Dajaun Bartey sealed the win in the 80th minute.

For coach Delvin Harris of St. Kitts, the experience was a learning one for the team as he believes his team did well, despite the loss. “If you look at the number of opportunities they had and based on the situation we faced early where (our goalkeeper) go an early red card, that is something that normally would have the players to bow their heads. If anyone was out here watching, you could have seen that the guys played and continue to put out the effort,” Coach Harris said after the match.

As for Coach Desmond Bleu of Antigua, his players stuck to the game plan, which led to the victory. “We had a short space of time working with the unit but we had a good crop of players and a few good weeks of hard training, technical work and also our tactical things we would have implemented in the game and the guys stuck to the game plan,” the coach said.  “This tournament came at an ideal time and CFU saw it in their wisdom to have a tournament before the (Concacaf U-15 tournament). What we are using this for is to jump start our team that we will take to Florida for the Concacaf U-15. This is a fairly young team, fairly new team. Most of them have not played on the international level before so this tournament gives us a chance to assess them and see what we need to adjust,” Coach Bleu added.

In the other match of Saturday’s double header, Dominica blanked Montserrat 2-0. Joshua St. Jean scored in the 8th minute while Ariel Lawrence netted in the 30th min. The tournament runs until August 12th at the Warner Park Football Stadium.  On Monday Dominica will play St. Vincent and the Grenadines while St. Kitts and Nevis will tackle Montserrat. Matches begin at 2pm at the Warner Park.
