SKNFA moves forward with technical, developmental football center

(Source: Miyvue.com) Basseterre, St. Kitts, 11th February, 2015 (MiyVue.com) – On the ground project activities are about to start for the construction of a football center of excellence near the St. Peter’s play field, Stapleton.
According to General Secretary Stanley Jacobs of the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA), the clearing of the land and placement of utility infrastructure are about to begin ahead of the construction phase of the project.

The SKNFA is constructing a Technical and Development Training Centre for the nation’s football players, providing them with special on and off-field facilities that would assist in the technical progress of players, while enhancing the developmental components of the game.
The lower level of the center would include a lecture hall, classrooms, a gymnasium, kitchen facilities and office space. The upper floor would comprise accommodation for teams, as well as additional office space and on field game space.
According to Jacobs, the project is being implemented in two phases, each costing about a US$500,000 sourced under the FIFA Gold Program. This is the second FIFA Gold funded project for St. Kitts and Nevis, the first being the SKNFA headquarters that was constructed on Losack Road.
Jacobs estimates a mid-2016 completion date for the entire project, although he indicated that the first phase should be ready by September this year. The building contractor for the project is Lennox Warner Construction.
Meanwhile, in other football news, Jacobs indicated that remedial work is still ongoing on the turf of the Warner Park Football Stadium, which has forced the Association to play most premier matches at the New Town football field.
Following extensive use by non-football related activities, the playing surface became damaged and a risk to football players.
Jacobs is hoping that matches could resume there around 22nd February.
