St. Kitts-Nevis hosts Puerto Rico in 2014 World Cup Qualifier Friday 2nd
Basseterre St. Kitts, September 1, 2011- World Cup qualifiers for 2014 in Brazil begin all over the world on Friday September 2nd and St. Kitts Nevis is among the many nations that have entered in the preliminary round. Pitched against Canada, St. Lucia and Puerto Rico in CONCACAF Group D, St. Kitts/Nevis plays the latter in their opening game at home at the Warner Park stadium commencing at 8 pm.
The two countries have not met many times before but in the most recent encounter St. Kitts Nevis won 1-0 in the Digicel Cup of 2010. Puerto Rico is known to be a very unpredictable team. On some occasions they are buoyed by professionals from the Major League Soccer in the USA and on other occasions they are filled with mainly college players.
The match result is extremely important since only one team qualifies from this group after each playing six matches (home and away)
The St. Kitts/Nevis technical staff have called up the services of Ace Veteran Striker Keith Kayamba Gumbs to the FIFA stipulated 23 man squad. With the ever growing concern over a low rate of conversion in front of goal the technical staff was leaving no stone unturned in terms of having options that can get goals and more goals.
Training continued throughout the past few weeks to prepare the squad for two matches within five days as the team will immediately leave for St. Lucia to play the second match (away).
All are invited to Warner Park to give boisterous support to the Sugar Boyz so that they can really take advantage of home court.
