The St Kitts-Nevis Football Association received word on 13th September from The Caribbean Football Union that they had won the bid to host the Final Round the Men’s Olympic Qualifier for the Caribbean Zone. The Olympic Qualifier was up for grabs as it was not assigned to any of the four participating countries. Two countries, St Kitts & Nevis and Suriname sent in bid request to host the final group stage in the Caribbean late last month.
The teams that are in the final group stage are Cuba, Suriname Trinidad & Tobago and host St Kitts & Nevis. The matches will be played from the 24th-28th November. The winner and runner of this group will then go to the CONCACAF group stage where two (2) out of that group will go to the London 2012 Olympics.
St Kitts Nevis had an impressive first round group stage by winning all three of their matches. The group consisted of Antigua & Barbuda, St Lucia, and Haiti. St Kitts will once again be placed on the world stage and would once again be the smallest nation in their group. Cuba and Trinidad & Tobago who are known as top football countries would be a challenge for the home team and would definitely be very intense and exciting games. Suriname will also be a team to be reckoned with as they won their group which consisted of Jamaica, one of the region’s top football nations.
St Kitts Nevis team has proven over the last tournament that they are capable and ready to be at the top of the table with a perfect record in their last group stage.
