ST. PAUL’S UNITED END CONCACAF CARIBBEAN CLUB SHIELD WITH A DRAW

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS AND NEVIS (Concacaf):  St. Paul’s United FC ended their 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield campaign with a draw against fellow Group A opponents Junior Stars from St. Martin on Monday, August 8 at the SKNFA Technical Center. Kalonji Clarke’s goal in the 3rd minute gave the home side an early 1-0 lead, but Saint Martin international Yannick Bellachasse would strike back in the 66’ to earn Junior Stars the 1-1 draw. St. Paul’s Captain Jamal Jeffers said they did things differently in this match, after losing their previous two fixtures.

“We went back to the drawing board and did a lot of things differently. We looked at how the St. Martin team played their two previous games and we tried to capitalize but unfortunately, we gave up a goal in the dying moments of the game, which is a part of football. We just have to move forward now,” Jeffers said.

Meanwhile, Metropolitan of Puerto Rico are the winners of Group A with a perfect three wins in three matches after topping Jong Holland of Curacao 2-0 at Warner Park. Juan Soriano opened the scoring in the 29’, followed by Hector Ramos’s insurance score in the 90+3’ to earn Metropolitan the three points and group win.

Golden Lion of Martinique are the winners of Group B after defeating Scholars International of the Cayman Islands 4-0 at the SKNFA Technical Centre. Alvyn Lamasine led the way with a second-half brace, scoring in the 62’ and 79’, while Jordy Boriel’s goal in the 8’ and Kenterly Faucher’s score in the 90’ completed the 4-0 scoreline. Lamasine leads all players in scoring in the Shield with five goals.
