Steadroy Techeira – A True Unsung Hero
The Executive and Members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association are truly saddened by the unexpected passing of Mr. Steadroy ‘Tish’ Techeira, who has made a tremendous contribution to sports and to football in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
We recall that in 2015, the SKNFA honored Mr. Techeira for his outstanding contribution to football in St. Kitts and Nevis. Indeed, he will be sadly missed by all of us.
Mr. Techeira was a former referee and assistant referee of the SKNFA. At the time of his passing, he was a member of the SKNFA Referees Committee, a Referee Assessor, Match Commissioner, General Coordinator and also a coach educator in the SKNFA grassroots programme.
In addition to his many other voluntary duties, Mr. Techeira made it his personal duty to collate all the results from all SKNFA League matches on a daily basis for circulating to the media houses. This ensured that the results, stats and scores were readily available for the early morning news the following day.
He also made significant contributions to other sports in St. Kitts and Nevis including Track and Field, Cricket, Volleyball and Basketball. Certainly, Mr. Techeira was dedicated to sports, committed to the development of young people, and exhibited a spirit of selflessness.
Truly, he was an unsung hero in our Federation and exemplified the meaning of ‘Country Above Self’. He served his country and the sporting community, in particular, with a great deal of enthusiasm and tirelessness.
We take this opportunity to wish his family our deepest condolences, and may God be with you in this time of sorrow.
