SUGAR BOYZ DEPART FOR INDONESIA TO COMPETE IN HISTORIC FIFA SERIES 2026
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (March 24, 2026) – The St. Kitts and Nevis Senior Men’s National Team, affectionately known as the “Sugar Boyz,” officially departed the Federation on Saturday March 24, 2026 to participate in the prestigious FIFA Series 2026 in Indonesia. This international showcase marks a significant milestone in the team’s development, with their opening match scheduled for Friday, March 27.
The FIFA Series provides a unique platform for the Sugar Boyz to test their mettle against global opposition. Assistant Coach Jamal Jeffers highlighted the intensity of the team’s preparation and the long-term benefits for the national program.
“At the end of the day, we have been working tremendously hard for competitions like this and now we have two great opponents before us,” said Jeffers. “We are just looking forward to seeing how we do against bigger countries across the globe.”
A NEW ERA UNDER MARCELO SERRANO
The trip also marks a pivotal moment for the squad under the leadership of newly appointed head coach Marcelo Serrano. Coach Jeffers praised Serrano’s meticulous approach and the professional development opportunities his tenure has provided to the local coaching staff.
“Coach Marcelo has given me some homework since about a month ago and I am sure he and the other staff members have been planning for this trip,” Jeffers noted. “For me, it’s a huge honour and an opportunity to work with top coaches across the world so that at the end of the day, I will be able to come back and share what I learn with more local coaches.”
National player Nequan Browne echoed this sentiment, noting the tactical clarity Serrano has brought to the dressing room. “He’s well-detailed. He gives a lot of information. So, that, for one, is a plus,” Browne stated. “He knows what he is doing; well-organized. Everything is set for us to just go out and play.”
HIGH STAKES AND FAN EXPECTATIONS
As the team prepares to face diverse playing styles in Indonesia, both the coaching staff and players are focused on seizing the moment.
“I know that these players have been waiting for opportunities like this and now an opportunity is here,” Jeffers added. “It’s for us to just grab it by both hands and just make the best of it.”
When asked what fans can expect from the Sugar Boyz on the pitch, Browne promised a resilient performance. “Well, in terms of performance, we’re looking to go and fight hard, you know, a good tactical masterpiece.”
