Team St Kitts-Nevis Remains Undefeated
After two nights of exciting football, team St Kitts-Nevis is one game away from moving on to the next round of competition in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. St Kitts- Nevis has won all of their matches and will now play Haiti who is also undefeated.
The tournament began on Thursday 21st July with Haiti defeating Antigua & Barbuda 2-1. The scorers in that game were Charles Herald Jr. in the 2nd minute and Guerrier Wilde Donald in the 48th minute for Haiti. Stefan Smith scored in the 27th minute for Antigua & Barbuda.
In the second game St Kitts-Nevis defeated St Lucia 2-1. The goal scorers for that game were Travis “Rug Rat Sommersall in the 39th minute and Terrance Warde in the 79th minute. St Lucia scored in the 90th minute and that goal was by Zaine Pierre.
Saturday 23rd was the second match day of the tournament with Haiti vs St Lucia and St Kitts Nevis vs Antigua & Barbuda.
Haiti once again showed their dominance in the opening minutes of the game and scored in the 7th minute by Sonny Norde. Haiti would then score again off the booth of Charles Herald Jr. in the 36th minute. St Lucia had some chances but could not convert a goal and was defeated 2-0.
The second game was a nerve racking game for the home crowd as Antigua & Barbuda scored in the first minute of the game of the booth of Akeem Thomas. St Kitts-Nevis came out of the locker room with a renewed energy in the second half of the game. In the 50th minute Captain Devaughn Elliott scored the first goal with a beautiful shot from the 16 yard line that send the crowd to their feet. Six minutes later Travis “Rug Rat” Somersall would send the crowd to their feet again in the 56th minute with the second goal for St Kitts-Nevis and his second goal of the tournament. The goal would be the final goal of the game and placed team St Kitts-Nevis in position for the final game against Haiti.
St Kitts Nevis will play Haiti tonight at 8:00 pm. The first match will be St Lucia vs Antigua for the third place.
