Village back on top after beating Conaree 2-1

Rams Village Superstars are back on the top of the SKNFA National Bank Premier League table after they came from 1-0 down to beat Island Auto Supplies Conaree F.C. 2-1. Conaree went ahead with a goal just after the halftime break in the 47th minute courtesy of Wazim Howe. However, Village was not left for dead and Kimaree Rogers got an equalizer in the 64th minute from a free kick. Travis Somersall rounded out the win in the 80th minute after Conaree defenders failed to clear their lines from ball bounced in the danger area.

Somersall at the end of the match, spoke about how he got the winning goal.  “I think it was a counter attack and the ball played to Bommers and then he played it to me.  At first I wanted to hit the shot first time but the defender recovered. My back was turned to the goal so all I could do was a back heel,” Somersall said.

Coach Jeffrey Hazel of Village said the key to the victory was the mental toughness of his players to be able to come back from behind to win the match.  “Even before the game we told them how important this game was to us not only to get a chance to be in the Easter Cup but also to get back on top of the table. The victory is very important, we did it and kudos to the guys,” he said.

Meanwhile Conaree’s coach Alexis Morris said his players did not concentrate throughout the entire match. “Village made some substitutions and started running at us but the two goals they got were very, very soft in my estimation,” he said. “At the end of the day, those are things that should not happen to us at all if you are concentrating to the very end,” he added.
