Village Still At The Top, Spurs Finally Get a Win

Defending champion Rams Village Superstars solidified their spot at the top of the Premier League standings with a 2-0 victory over Flow 4G Cayon Rockets, that are having a hard time making the best of home field advantage.

With the Warner Park football pitch still being rehabilitated after carnival festivities last December, the St. Mary’s Park in Cayon became the venue for the resumption of round two matches since the start of the year. But Cayon only mustered up three victories on their home ground and Sunday’s defeat to Village is the latest setback. Raheem Francis netted for Village in the 28th minute, while Dennis Fleming sealed the win in the 80th minute.

After the match Coach Stephen Clarke of Village was asked whether his team had gotten accustomed to the pitch at the St. Mary’s Park. “We’re still getting some bumps on the field and a lot of holes and bad bounce but it is nothing to complain about; we just have to go out there and get our three points,” Clarke said, adding that his eyes are now on the Easter Cup.

As for Cayon’s Assistant Coach Jazza Buchanan, his team is slowly getting back the rhythm, as injuries continue to plague his senior players. “I think we had a better showing than the last few times. We have some guys just coming back from long term injury and so we had a better showing. We showed more as a team right now because they have been gelling with a lot of players,” he said. “We have to be still fighting. We can’t give up. It’s disappointing that the games are (home) and we lost a lot of them…we have to stay positive and work harder,” the coach added. Nevertheless he lauded his young players for their valiant effort.
